Applications
A solid or stranded steel core is encircled by strands of electrolytic grade aluminum in aluminum conductors steel reinforced (ACSR Conductors), as the name implies.
Since ACSR conductors have a great mechanical strength thanks to the steel core, they can be utilized for installations involving extra-long span overhead transmission lines, for example, or for crossing rivers.
Advantages
The transmission conductor ACSR, with its own steel reinforcement provides additional strength and where the spans run for larger distances, such as across rivers.
The incorporation of a king wire is often an advantage for ACSR type conductors, as it ensures that the surrounding layer of wires fits firmly on the central wire.
ACSR conductors may be subjected to corrosive conditions such as high pollution found in industrial areas or salt spray in coastal areas.
Construction
All aluminum conductors are made up of one or more concentrically stranded layers of aluminum wire, with the outermost layer being laid in the right direction.
Packing
Delivery lengths are determined from a consideration of such factors as physical drum dimensions, drum weights, span length, handling equipment or the customer’s request.
