Application

In order to avoid contact faults or in situations where space is at a premium, ASTM 25kV Aerial Cable (tree wire and spacer cable) is designed for use in overhead primary and secondary distribution systems rated at 25 kV (nominal).
In the event of contact with trees or other wildlife, the track resistant 3-layer structure eliminates short circuits and flashovers. This system can effectively stop system failures, damage, or fires caused by falling trees or branches when it is placed properly.

Construction

Aerial Spacer Cable with a conductor made entirely of aluminum, a 3-layer extruded shield and covering system made up of a 2-layer covering and an extruded semiconducting thermoset conductor shield.
Crosslinked polyethylene makes up the inner layer of the covering, and track-resistant crosslinked polyethylene makes up the outside layer.
Each layer is joined by a bond.

Conductor:
AAC (1350-H19, compact stranded).

Conductor Shield:
Extruded semiconducting thermoplastic shield which is free stripping from the conductor and bonded to the covering.

Inner and Outer Covering:
2-layer crosslinked polyethylene covering (XLPE), where the outer layer is track-resistant (TK-XLPE). All layers are bonded together. The outer layer shall be black or gray, sunlight resistant and track resistant.

Standards

In accordance with specifications set forth by the American Society for Testing and Materials:
The aluminum 1350-H19 conductor components of this product meet or exceed B230 standards for said material.
The conductor components also meet B231 standard for concentric-lay-stranded aluminum 1350-H19 wires.
The steel reinforced aluminum concentric-lay-stranded (ACSR) meets B232 standards.
Galvanized zinc-coated steel core for reinforcement meets ASTM B498 standards.
