BS EN 50397-1:2020 Covered conductors for overhead lines and the related accessories for rated voltages above 1 kV AC and not exceeding 36 kV AC Covered conductors
Medium voltage covered conductors are Used for primary and secondary overhead distribution where limited space is available or desired for rights-of-way. Installed the same as bare conductors, however, covering is effective in preventing direct shorts and instantaneous flash overs should tree limbs or other objects contact conductors in such close proximity.
Tree Wire
Used for spans where trees crowd the right-of-way, such as in wooded residential areas, when a minimum of interference with the environment is desired. Covering minimizes power outages due to conductor contact with tree limbs, reducing the need for frequent or severe trimming.
Covered Aerial MV Cable
Installed with other Covered Aerial MV cables and a supporting messenger through a series of space- maintaining devices (spacers). The resulting close-proximity configuration minimizes the amount of space and hardware required for line installation, particularly useful in congested areas.
Spacer Cable
Installed with other spacer cables and a supporting messenger through a series of space- maintaining devices(spacers). The resulting close-proximity configuration minimizes the amount of space and hardware required for line installation ;particularly useful in congested areas.
AAC (1350-H19), AAAC or ACSR conductors, concentrically stranded. Available with black or gray track-resistant, high-density polyethylene (HD) or black track-resistant cross linked polyethylene (XLP) covering.
Conductor:
Longitudinally water tight stranded all aluminium alloy (AAAC) or aluminium conductor steel reinforced (ACSR).
A (conductor screen):
Water swellable semi-conducting tape (if required) and extruded semi-conducting compound.
B (inner insulation):
XLPE
C (outer insulation):
UV protected and anti-tracking black colored XLPE or HDPE.
Cable Marking:
printing, embossing, engraving
Packaging:
wooden drum, steel drum, steel-wooden drum
Anti-tracking property is must for MVCC outer XLPE/HDPE. As per the experience of several international utilities, in the absence of anti-tracking, XLPE or HDPE, MVCC fails within a short time period of 5-6 months. Anti-tracking jacketing has been specially designed to meet the outdoor conditions and performance requirements of 13.8 KV to 34.5 KV distribution networks. The material has an excellent resistance to arc, corrosion inhibitor, fungicide activity, oil resistance, and weather conditions like humidity, pollution, presence of salt in atmosphere etc. There is a special test method for carrying out the tests for the anti-tracking in BS EN 50397-1.
