AS/AC AWAC Wire also called Aluminum-clad steel wire/aluminum conductors or AWAC Conductor, it is used as a phase conductor to increase span length or clearances, neural messenger wire for spacer cables, tree wires, overhead ground or shield wires, and as aluminum self supporting cables.
Aluminum-clad steel wire/aluminum conductors are a concentric-lay-stranded construction consisting of a combination of 1350-H19 aluminum and aluminum-clad steel wires. AWAC conductor is manufactured in accordance with the requirements of ASTM Specification B549.
Two tensile strengths available, AW2 (Normal Strength) and AW3 (High Strength).
Delivery lengths are determined from a consideration of such factors as physical drum dimensions, drum weights, span length and handling equipment.
ASTM B502 – Round, single end, Aluminum-clad Steel core wire used in the manufacture of AS/AC (AWAC) and ACSR/AS (AW) cables. Two tensile strengths available, AW2 (Normal Strength) and AW3 (High Strength);
ASTM B230 – This specification covers aluminum 1350-H19 (extra hard) round wire for electrical purposes;
ASTM B549 – This specification covers concentric-lay-stranded conductors made from round aluminum 1350-H19 (extra hard) aluminum wires and round aluminum-clad steel core wires for use as overhead electrical conductors.
